Home      Crown Molding Trim Carpenter

Finish Carpenter's,Trim Carpenter's,Millwrights,Builders,Remodeling and Home improvement companies all use the same language when referring to Trim Molding.
 
 
  Ceilings
 
          CROWN                   The Crown molding is used as a transition from the wall to the ceiling.

          FRIEZE                    The Frieze is the decorative band along the upper part of the wall, usually below a crown.
 
  Doors & Windows
 
          BACK BAND             The Back Band  builds up casing or baseboard.

          CASING                   Casing is used to frame doors and windows, covering the gap between the jamb and drywall.

          HEADER                  The header replaces the top casing, reflecting a Victorian or Federal style.

          ROSETTE                A rosette is used in place of a mitered corner around doors and windows.

          STOP & SCREEN     The Stop and screen molding prevents the door or screen from passing through the opening.

          WINDOW STOOL    A window stool replaces the bottom casing and is often used with a window liner and header.
 
    Wall
 
            CHAIR RAIL                             A chair rail is used on its own or as part of wall paneling to protect the wall from dining chairs.
 
            COVE & OUTSIDE CORNER     Outside corner molding protects the corner of a wall. Cove and outside corners are also used in wall paneling.
 
            PANEL MOLD                           Panel molding creates a decorative edge around wall paneling.
 
            ROUND                                     Rounds like quarter and half round are the most versatile molding.
 
            WALL PANEL                           Linear wall paneling is created by fitting together vertical rows of tongue and groove or lap joint wall paneling.
 
  Floor
 
            BASEBOARD                            Baseboard covers the gap between the floor and the wall, to protect from impact.
 
            BASE SHOE                             Base shoe or shoe molding is a flexible molding that covers small discrepancies between the baseboard
                                                           and the floor.

          PLINTH BLOCK                      Plinth block is used at the floor below door casing creating a transition to the baseboard.
 
 Home Depot and lowes are good Sources for finding common Trim moldings they are usually cheaper in board ft but if you are interested in a better selection of Hardwoods,composites or want to get your trims custom milled to your taste you can!
